Top 10 Housing Trends of 2015

Thinking about renovating some of the rooms in your home this spring? Realtor Magazine recently outlined some of the hottest housing trends experts expect to draw great appeal this year. Take a look and see if one of these trends could serve as an inspiration for one of your upcoming renovation projects.

Open Floor Plan. Homeowners are increasingly asking for open floor plans that merge kitchens and living rooms into one large space to create a sense of togetherness and one central hub.

White Kitchens. All-white kitchens support the trend of open floor plans because the color of white creates a sense of openness and gives the illusion of a larger space. Also, if the cabinetry is white, homeowners have the option to choose bigger hardware to make a bold decor statement.

Multiple Master Suites. This particular trend is a favorite for the elderly. By having two master bedroom suites, aging parents can have their children come and stay with them for long or short-term stays. It can also work well for homeowners who are often housing out-of-town guests.

Freestanding Tubs. With vintage, and Victorian-era style gaining popularity in decor trends, it’s no wonder that freestanding tubs are on this list. Although it may be difficult to climb in and out of, these tubs complement other bathroom trends like open wall niches and single wash basins.

Quartzite. Being a natural stone and virtually indestructible, this material is becoming a contender with the classics like marble and granite.

Porcelain Floors. Less expensive than wood and just as durable, porcelain is said to be one of the go-to flooring options of 2015. Porcelain floors can be manufactured as small tiles or long, linear planks and are available in many colors and textures.

Outdoor Living. Many homeowners are taking interest into upgrading their outdoor space. Outdoor showers and upgraded roof decks are just a few of the features experts believe are gaining popularity this year.

Added Storage. The idea of “everything has its place” is what’s causing the need for added storage to rise. Homeowners are beginning to ask for customized closets and pantries with built-in storage spots for their specific items.

The Color Coral. Sherwin-Williams announced that Coral Reef (#6606) is 2015’s color of the year. They suggest pairing the color with a crisp white or gray and using it outside or on an accent wall.

Charging Stations. In our world of tablets and cell phones, it only make sense now for their to be a charging station in the home. Homeowners are choosing a designated spot (like the corner of a kitchen or entrance from a garage) and having multiple electrical outlets built in that specific area to serve as their “central” charging station.
