With good care, your clothes will look better and last longer, saving you money in the long run. Extending the life of your clothes doesn’t necessarily mean hours of work, but it does require a bit of planning and effort. Here are some tips for clothing care that will stop wrinkles and extend service life.

At the end of the season, take the time to store your clothing with care. Avoid using cheap wire hangers because they will stretch out heavier fabrics and alter the shape of your clothes over time. Instead, invest in felt hangers which provide more support and have enough grip to hold even thin, silky fabrics. Wooden hangers are best for suits and other heavy items. Suits should be hung on a suit hanger in a bag that allows the fabric to breathe. Don’t pack hanging items so tightly together in a closet that they become wrinkled and misshapen. To prevent wrinkles, leave an inch of space between each hanger.
The best way to store shoes and maintain their shape is to store them upright, with one shoe in front and the match right behind. This allows you to see your options without having to struggle to see what’s behind.
