When it comes to choosing the right interior paint color for your home, there are numerous factors to consider. We’ll go over the basics below, but you should do your own research before making any decisions.
Paint is typically available in two finishes: flat and gloss. Flat finish paint is generally less expensive than gloss paint because it lacks the same high shine finish but depending on the type of lighting you want in your room, one may look better than the other. Glossy paints reflect light and make a room appear brighter, whereas matte paints absorb light, and warmer (and sometimes darker) tones can make a room appear smaller by contrast. Choose the type of paint you want to use based on the room you want to change. Choose lighter colors to make a small space appear larger, and darker colors to add coziness and warmth.
The next step in selecting interior paint colors is to select colors that complement one another. If you want to go for a modern look, try accenting the dominant color with grays, blacks, and whites. Use complementary colors for classic themes, such as red and green, blue, and orange, or yellow and purple. Grays, browns, and whites are good choices for a neutral color scheme.
