Home Maintenance / January 30, 2017
If you’re the proud new owner of a home here in Austin, or close by, you should take the time to consider some of the following tasks to complete prior to your move in day. This short list of things you can do will help make your moving in process a little easier but will also help keep you and your home safe. Check out what our crew here at Handyman Connection of Austin recommends, below.
Change All Locks
Even if you’re moving into a brand new home, there is a chance that multiple copies of your home’s keys are floating around. Whether it be real estate agents, contract workers, inspectors, or others, alleviate any potential future issue and maintain peace of mind by changing all of the locks on your exterior entrances to your home. It’s an inexpensive task in the long run with priceless benefits.
Inspect Further
Before moving in, make sure to do an extensive inspection (beyond your previous inspections) to make sure you are aware of any repairs and try to get them done before moving in. Sometimes by making one repair, you are faced with another, so it’s much easier in the long run if you can take care of any repairs prior to moving in.
Clean
Take advantage of the opportunity. You have an empty home. Use that time to do an extensive deep clean of all areas of your home. You may even consider hiring a professional cleaning service (there are a lot available in Austin) to help you with this. Also use that time to make sure all appliances are functioning properly and replace any as necessary.
Paint
Similar to cleaning, use the ‘empty house’ time to add fresh coats of paint that aren’t already in pristine condition. It’s always best to paint prior to moving any furniture inside if you have the chance. It leaves less room for chipped paint and more room for making your house a home here in Austin!
