Celebrating 25 Years

This month we are celebrating a milestone! Handyman Connection Calgary is celebrating 25 years in business! We’ve been keeping homeowners’ homes in good shape for a quarter of a century, and we’re so grateful. Since our humble beginnings, we’ve come a long way, and we couldn’t have done it without our customers.

We are a family-owned and operated business that started with Bob Campbell, the visionary behind the Calgary franchise location. Bob saw a need for these services in Calgary during the early 90s. At the time, he had been laid off as part of the downsizing that swept the nation, leaving many out of work. But Bob didn’t let it get him down. He used it to start something for himself and his family as a positive opportunity.

While browsing a copy of Entrepreneur magazine, he read about the Handyman Connection franchise opportunity and knew it was the right fit. Knowing that there was a need for small to medium-sized repairs and renovations, Bob saw a business opportunity that fit his skills and needs.

Bob opened the 10th Handyman Connection franchise in Canada and has been in his element ever since. He never considered himself a craftsman, but he certainly knew quality workmanship when he saw it. So, this was the perfect opportunity for him to use his skills in interpersonal and management from years spent in the corporate world and jumped into Handyman Connection head first.

Bob brought his daughter Carol on board to help build the business, servicing the community with expert knowledge and dedicated workmanship. He also recruited a talented team of craftspeople, many of whom were multi-talented with over ten years of experience.

The company offers a free, no-obligation written estimate on all jobs that represented the successful completion of the work. This job price estimate is still offered today and provides the homeowner peace of mind knowing there will be no hidden costs.

Retirement

As the skills level grew with Bob’s son Alex and his wife Christina over the years, they made their first franchise location purchase in Red Deer, Alberta in 2004 to expand their network. Fast forward to 2013 as Bob decided he was ready to retire, he sold the business to Alex and Christina. They carried on with their network by purchasing the Victoria B.C location that same year, and then purchased the Kelowna franchise location in 2016.

Having key staff in each location has allowed Alex and Christina the ability to successfully run each city independently with local trades and services. Carol moved on from Calgary and purchased the Edmonton Handyman Connection location and still runs this operation as of today. One thing is for certain, this family is all about Handyman Connection!
