It’s important to maintain your home’s indoor air quality, as your family spends a good amount of time indoors. In addition, improving your home’s indoor air quality will also make your home more comfortable and reduce the risk of health complications from pollutants. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends several ways to improve your home’s indoor air quality. Handyman Connection® of Mason explains a few:
Use Air Cleaners
Air cleaners are widely available so you can easily find the right product for your home. However, before buying an air cleaner, consider a few factors. Evaluate how well it collects pollutants from indoor air and how much air it draws through the cleaning or filtering element. Choose an air cleaner that’s highly efficient at both tasks.
Utilize Good Source Control
According to the EPA, the most effective way to improve your indoor air quality is by reducing the emissions from sources of pollution or by removing those individual sources. For example, you can decrease the amount of emissions from your gas stove, properly store chemicals away from anyone’s reach and use building components and materials that are certified not to release harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Improve Your Home’s Ventilation
Increasing the amount of fresh outdoor air entering your home can also decrease the concentration of pollutants in your indoor air. For instance, you can install bathroom or kitchen fans to improve your home’s ventilation rate. You can also try opening all of your windows for several hours every day for natural ventilation.
