Why an Induction Stove Is More Convenient Than a Regular One

Are you using a regular stove in your kitchen? If you answered yes, then you might want to consider upgrading to an induction stove. Why is making the switch such a big deal? How exactly is an induction stove better than a regular one? The answer lies in how it works.

How an Induction Stove Works

Instead of heating a pot or pan with burning fuel (like a gas stove) or a red-hot metal plate (like a regular electric stove), an induction stove uses electricity to magnetize the pot. This magnetization process creates electrical currents that create heat energy because of the pot’s natural electric resistance. This means an induction stove is directly heating a pot instead of transferring heat from a flame or a hot piece of metal.

An Induction Stove Works Faster

With a regular stove, you have to wait for the heat source to transfer enough heat to the pan for it to get to a certain temperature. An induction stove does away with that heat transfer since the pot itself is heating up. In one experiment, an induction cooker boiled a quart of water in five minutes and fifty seconds, almost three minutes faster than a gas burner.

An Induction Stove Is More Efficient

A lot of the heat energy from an open flame or a hot plate is dispersed into the air instead of the pot. Because an induction stove directly heats the pot, more heat energy actually goes to cooking the food. Research shows that around 70 percent of the heat generated by an induction cooker is used for cooking, as opposed to a gas burner where only a little over 40 percent of the heat was used for cooking.

An Induction Stove Is Safer

Since an induction stove does not have any parts that heat up, it is much safer than other types of stoves. After usage, only residual heat from the pot is left on the stove surface. Gas stoves and regular electric stoves can remain dangerously hot for half an hour or maybe more.

An Induction Stove Is “Cooler”

Since most of the heat generated by an induction stove goes to cooking, less heat is dispersed throughout the room, making the room a lot cooler than if you cooked with a gas or electric stove. This takes a lot of burden off your HVAC system, which ultimately translates to lower energy usage and a lower monthly electric bill.
