Tips and Tricks for Painting Your Bathroom

Painting your bathroom can be a relatively quick and affordable way to transform its appearance and make it a more relaxing and welcoming place. However, painting the bathroom can be tricky. You need to use the right paint and you need to maneuver around the various bathroom fixtures. Don’t Forget to Prep the Surfaces

The paint will need a clean and dry surface to adhere to. You’ll need to clean your bathroom walls and remove any mildew before painting. Mildew can prevent new paint from adhering and it can even bleed through. To remove mildew, you’ll need to dip a sponge in a solution that’s one part bleach and three parts water. Use this sponge to clean the walls. When doing this, make sure the room is well-ventilated by opening a window or running the exhaust fan. Wipe down the walls with water and allow them to dry before painting.

Use Satin or Semi-Gloss Finishes

We recommend using a satin or semi-gloss finish for your bathroom paint. Satin finishes are less likely to trap mold and they are easier to clean than eggshell or flat finishes. You can use satin finishes on your bathroom walls, the ceiling and even the trim. However, keep in mind that satin and semi-gloss finishes draw attention to any imperfections. Make sure to prep the surfaces and get them as smooth as you can before painting.

Be Careful When Painting

Before painting the bathroom, you’ll need to apply painter’s tape to the edges of areas you don’t want pained. You should also use a sash brush with a tapered tip because it’s easier to control. Once you’re done painting, let the paint dry overnight before using the bathroom. Any water that splashes against a newly painted surface can cause the paint to soften and run.
